Across mountains, deserts, grasslands and cities, horses have shaped the way people move, work, fight, trade, travel and understand their place in the world.

FARAS is an ongoing photographic study of those relationships.

Beginning in Africa and extending across continents, the project documents living horse cultures, some enduring, others increasingly threatened by social, economic and environmental change.

FARAS is an evolving visual archive of the horse and the worlds built around it.

FARAS, فراس - is the Arabic word for horse and the root of the Swahili farasi. The name connects the project to East Africa, where its founder grew up, and to the wider movement of horses, people and language across cultures and continents.
